SatNav

Well, this makes a change, a blog about something other than Money Maker Machine . I have finally given in to my desires and bought myself a SatNav. The main reason for buying it was to use when we go touring with the new caravan. We have planned 5 holidays this year in the van. A couple of them are sites we have been to before but I felt that the SatNav should help us get there (it is not unusual for us to 'take a wrong turning' when going somewhere) and also will help us find our way around in an area where we do not know where the car parks or supermarkets or garages etc. are.

I have bought a TomTom 520 with just the UK & Ireland maps. If I need the European ones I can always buy them later. At present I have no plans to take the van into Europe, although that may change as and when I retire.

It arrived from Amazon last night and I have still to understand the details of it but the route it picks to get me to work is totally wrong. The route suggested is through the worst congestion for Glasgow so the jury is still out on how well it works. Certainly the route to Inverness (our first real outing next month) seems to be one of the better alternatives. We shall see.

Arghhhh - Holidays

I was planning on going on holiday in just over a fortnight. We have a touring caravan and take it to various parts of the United Kingdom over the course of a year. Well we were due to go down to Tewksbury for a site by the river Avon. That was the plan. Till torrential rain has caused severe flooding of the town and the site is under a couple of feet of water!!!! Now even if the water subsides I don't think the site will be in a fit state to use by the time we get there (on Friday the 13th would you believe!!).

So last night the wife and I started to try and find alternatives. Well as most of Southern England is flooded we discounted them. The North is either booked or sites we do not want to go to. So we thought, why not go abroad. Oh Boy. Talk about spoilt for choice. The problem is my wife and I could not agree on a place to go. I fancy Turkey (we have never been there) but my wife wants Menorca (we have been there several times). I don't know where we will end up at this short notice but it could be an interesting visit to the travel agents tonight.

Still Here - Just not doing much typing :{

Hiya all. Sorry for the length of time since my last Blog. Slapped wrist and all that!!! OK I was just being lazy.

The car is great, I have now done over 2000 miles in it and this coming weekend will be taking it for it's first outing with the caravan. We will be going up to Banchory in Scotland. It is just to the west of Aberdeen. It is an area of the country that I have not been to before so I am looking forward to it. It is about 3 hours from where I live (just to the West of Glasgow) so it should be a good run for the motor.

One thing that I have noticed is that I do not get the mileage out of it that I did with the Peugeot. I used to get 2 weeks out of a tank full but this one has to be refilled each week. Not quite the same amount but still noticeably less miles per tank (and it is a bigger tank!!). The Peugeot used to give me about 40 miles to the gallon. The Kia must be about 35-36. Now that does not sound much but when you do over a 1000 miles a month it adds up. OK I am not doing the heavy miles of a Commercial Salesman but that is basically just commuting to and from work plus a few trips at the weekend.

So much for that moan

The weather outside is glorious and I do not want to be in the office. Where I work has no natural daylight and is cooled by Air Conditioning so I never know what it is like outside till I go home.

The weather is supposed to last till the end of the weekend so I should get some benefit with the caravan. What it will be like next week is another matter.

Anyway byeeee for now.

Holidays - Next Year

I am being an absolute devil at the moment {grin}. Both my wife and I love visiting friends in Buffalo Grove, in Illinois (just north west of Chicago) but because of the need for some house alterations we didn't go last year. Well, I just looked up the fares on KLM from Glasgow to O'Hare Chicago and planted the seed of a trip next spring. KLM's prices are very good and we avoid Manchester or Heathrow.

My wife loves the shopping in the US and we have a GREAT time with our friends there.

The problem is I need a new car, the house is still not finished and we really should spend the money at home. But what the heck. Life is for living!!!!! Watch this space. It will either be caravan holidays this year (don't get me wrong, we do enjoy these holidays and it means we can get 4 of them in a year) or a trip to Chicago and 2 caravan holidays. Time will tell.

I've done It!!!!!

Well it wasn't quite the way I was expecting but here we are, a picture of me. It was a tough evening on a Caribbean Cruise last year. Boy they have some great sunsets in that part of the world.

It was my wife's 50th birthday last year and as a treat I took her on a cruise on the Ocean Village. It was our first cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone. The only down side was that we had booked all the trips before we started and it was a bit tiring day after day. Don't get me wrong, they were superb (most of the time) but just a bit knackering. :)

I may chat about the cruise some other time. It took me the rest of the year to pay off the credit card so this year we just went places in our Caravan. Equally enjoyable but in a much more relaxing way.
