Visit to the Doctor

Well I had a visit to the Doctor's yesterday. Good News and Bad News.

The good news is that my Diabetes is back under control. The additional Metformin tablets seem to have done the trick (when I remember to take them that is!!! - OK I forgot last night and as a result my bloods were up to 7.2 this morning instead of in the 6's.) However that reading is still acceptable. Also my kidneys seem to be functioning OK so all. in all, a good result.

Now the bad news. My blood pressure is waaaaaaayy to high. Ho Hum, just as I get one thing under control along comes another. Yet more tablets to take. I started the course this morning but it occasionally has side effects on the kidneys. So, I will be back to the vampire next week to take some more blood to make sure this new tablet is not affecting my kidneys.

That will be 5 tablets at breakfast, 3 with my dinner and 2 last thing at night. Shake me and I will rattle (grin).

The important thing is that we are doing something about it and it is being closely monitored. I still want to be around to retire in 9 years time.

New Motor

I have been very quite about my new motor. Basically because I haven't got it yet. The paperwork was sent out to me last week, but has never arrived (THANKS POST OFFICE). I have spoken with my suppliers and they are sending me a second set of documents to my Works address so hopefully they will arrive.

The good news is, if I can get the paperwork back to them then I should still have the vehicle before the month end (i.e. next week)!!!!!!

No I'm Not

Sigh!! Just when you thought you were getting a handle on this thing it goes and proves you wrong. I suppose that is the fun with gambling. Nothing is guaranteed and even the so called 'experts' get it wrong. Still, persevere, they say and you should come out on top. Eventually, maybe!!!!! Don't hold your breath.

Getting the Hang of It

Well, this horse racing lay betting is not going to earn me a fortune at the size of bets I place (£2) but it is slowly increasing. Thanks to the lay site on the left (for an explanation of it all you will have to go to the very first pages on the blog) and some lucky selections I am ahead of the game. I don't do all the horses he suggests, in fact I only did 3 on Saturday but they all lost and I made my stake back (less commission). So if I lay £2 and the horse loses then I get £2 added to my account. I know it is small fry but I do not want to get to the point where it is big money that I cannot afford to loose. Always only bet what you can afford to loose is what I keep reading, and it is sound advice.

He also has a backing blog. I may look at that as well. The risks are greater, but so are the rewards. The trouble is there is no guarantee with any of this. All the sites I have seen appear to have loosing streaks at some stage, be it 2 or 3 races you can still loose all your previous profit.

It's your choice and your money. The above implies no guarantees and is only indicative of how I am doing.

Tough Horses

You would not think it would be so difficult to pick a horse that will LOOSE would you? After all only one of them can win so the rest are losers. I suppose it comes down to what kind of risk you want to take. With lay betting you are betting against those who think the horse will win and if you select a very long shot and it wins it will cost you a FORTUNE. It is a balancing act that I haven't quite got the hang of yet. The blog on the left about lay betting is very good but it is covering about half a dozen different schemes. It was making little sense to me so I emailed the guy that runs it. He pointed me to the first couple of blogs which explain what it is he is doing and what the numbers all mean.

Nice guy Clive. I like his style. His selected horses don't always loose which is why you have to run a betting bank that will take losses into account. Have a look at his blogs and sign up for his free newsletter. It makes interesting reading. (No I am no affiliate but I might look into that aspect of it (grin)).

I am getting interested in the Sport of Kings

Well, OK, I admit it I have been slowly getting into the various schemes for betting on Horses & Football matches (Soccer to you Yanks (Grin)). Hence some of the links to the left. The horses have been the most successful but none of them are very consistent.

I have been looking at various schemes but quite frankly most of them are little more than guesswork (well on my part that is). I am sure they mean something to somebody, but I am the proverbial rookie and am still coming to terms with the terminology yet alone anything else. Anybody come across a simple system that does not require you to be sitting at your PC as the race is about to start?

There are numerous web sites offering the 'Golden Fleece' ie win £5,000 every month, without any knowledge of horses. Well, I match the latter part but not the former!!!!

I limit myself to small bets which don't cost me too much (and don't win too much either!!) but it is too easy to get sucked into this gambling lark. I think I will stay on the edges and live with my £5 bets.

Some laws WE never learnt at school

I came across this whilst surfing. I think they are all true.
  • 1) Lorenz's Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch
  • 2) Anthony's Law of the Workshop: Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.
  • 3) Kovac's Conundrum: When you dial a wrong number, you never get an engaged one.
  • 4) Cannon's Karmic Law: If you tell the boss you were late for work
  • because you had a flat tire, the next morning you will have a flat tire.
  • 5) O ' Brien's Variation Law: If you change queues ( TrainTicket
  • reservation) , the one you have left will start to move faster than
  • the one you are in now.
  • 6)BELL'S THEOREM: When the body is immersed in water, the telephone rings.
  • 7) RUBY'S PRINCIPLE OF CLOSE ENCOUNTERS: The probability of meeting someone you know increases when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.
  • 8) WILLOUGHBY'S LAW: When you try to prove to someone that a machine/system won't work, it will.
  • 9) ZADRA'S LAW OF BIOMECHANICS: The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.
  • 10) BREDA'S RULE: At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle arrive last.
  • 11) OWEN'S LAW: As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.
  • 12) HOWDEN'S LAW: You remember you have to mail a letter only when you're near the mailbox.
  • 13) KITCHEN'S RULE: You doubt whether you have switched off the light or not once you are on the Bus to office.

It's My Turn

Well, after much deliberation and a couple of visits to my local Kia garage, I have finally plumped to lease a Kia Sorento CRDi XE diesel. The paper work is in progress and, barring any issues with my credit status, I should have a new vehicle withing about 2 weeks. Yay!!!!!! Anybody want to buy a 6 year old Peugeot 406 HDi Estate Rapier (90BHP)?

The local garage couldn't match what the lease firms could and this way I don't have to find a substantial deposit and have a finance agreement for the next 5 years (again). I did my last car for 5 years and it really is a long time to keep a car. What with depreciation, running costs etc. The lease will be an interesting experiment. If I don't like it, I only have 2 years with the car, if I do like it then I can get a new one every 2 or 3 years.

I am not bothered whether I actually own the car, as long as I have access to one.

My wife is on my case though, as I HAVE to sell the old car quickly. When I bought it my previous car took ages to sell and she was doing her nut in with it parked in front of the house. Once I get a date for the new one I suppose I will need to start advertising it locally.

You are Feeling Sleeeepy

OK, I will admit it I am overweight. It's that time of year. Everyone seems to be going on a diet. Well, to me DIET is a FOUR LETTER WORD. It is as bad as swearing, I think you know the word I mean. I have tried various diets over the years and they all worked at first but were impossible to keep the weight off. The one that caused me the biggest problem was the Atkins Diet. It worked brilliantly but I overdid it and suddenly found myself totally out of control, binge eating chocolate biscuits. That scared the heck out of me, I can tell you :{

Many years ago I tried Hypnosis and I liked the feeling. Unfortunately it brought to the surface some emotional problems I was having at the time and didn't really help me with my weight loss. But never the less I did like the feeling of relaxation it gave me.

Well recently I have been re-visiting it with the help of Paul McKenna. His weight loss system to be exact. He has put forward some interesting suggestions and I am working my way through all the cd's. I do feel better within myself. Sky TV did a short series of 4 programs earlier on last year that I came across. I have watched 3 out of the 4 and will probably watch the last one tomorrow night. I find myself arguing with myself. I know it sounds daft, but I am putting up resistance to his suggestions. Boy the sub-concious mind is a tricky beast. I had a lot more resistance when I first did hypnosis to the point where I was getting disturbing dreams and difficulty sleeping, but I persevered and eventually brought things under control. I think I am doing the same again, but with much greater ease than at first. I will persevere and I am sure I will succeed. Maybe I will let you know how I am getting on from time to time.

Flash Earth

I have just added a link to Flash Earth, it's a system that uses several satellite imaging systems to look at the earth. It uses Google Earth (and others) and the imaging is quite good. At least in the areas I looked at , my house (which has lost 2 trees, and gained a conservatory since the photo was taken) and where I used to live in Bahrain. The quality over Bahrain was quite good and I easily tracked down where I used to live and where I used to work. It has been some 20 years since I left and it is interesting to see how much land reclamation there has been and how many 'open sand parking lots' are now buildings or covered parking lots.

I even looked at Riyadh and Jeddah and mainly found my bearings from the airports. If I visited now I would definitely get lost. Both cities have expanded greatly.

Do you empathise?

A friend of mine sent me this. I think the ladies amongst you will understand!!! Enjoy.

Monday 1 January 2007

I told you so.

Like I said, it was blowing a gale last night. All the official parties in Glasgow and Edinburgh were cancelled and the wind was so strong, I now have half my fence missing and 4 ridge tiles are dislodged from the roof. I may well have to call on the insurance for this one. Assuming that I can get a roofing firm to come to my house and not charge the earth. I am sure they will be very busy with a lot worse damage than I have to my roof, but as long as we are still water tight I can wait.

Good start to the New Year (grin)
